Bajaj Auto Q3 net jumps over 3-fold, bikes touch record sales

13 Jan 2010;dailypioneer.com:New Delhi: Boosted by best ever quarterly sale of motorcycle, three-wheelers and exports, Bajaj Auto on Tuesday reported a nearly three-fold jump in its net profit in the third quarter at Rs 475.14 crore. It had a net profit of Rs 164.27 during the corresponding period of last fiscal, Bajaj Auto said in a statement. Bajaj Auto also reported a total income of Rs 3,330.68 crore for the Q3 ended December 31, against Rs 2,140.98 crore in the same period last fiscal, a growth of 55.57 per cent. Bajaj’s bike sales surged 71.96 per cent during Q3 at 7,11,991 units, against 4,14,039 units in the same quarter of FY’09. “During the quarter, motorcycle sales for the company surged 72 per cent against an industry growth of 37 per cent, reflecting the astuteness of the company’s brand-market mix strategy,” Baja Auto said. Its total two-wheeler sales also jumped by 70.95 per cent to 7,13,051 units during the period, from 4,17,111 units during Q3 of last fiscal. The quarter also saw the company registering its highest ever three-wheeler sales. Sales in this segment grew by 25.48 per cent to 96,167 units during the quarter, against 76,637 units in the December quarter of the previous fiscal. Exports during the three month period was also the highest ever reported by the firm at 2,73,902 units, compared with 2,15,233 units during the same quarter last fiscal, a growth of 27.26 per cent.
